About Vulnerability:
We use five factors to determine a specific neighborhood's vulnerability to displacement through gentrification:
- Percent of People Who are Renters (shown in pop-up as a decimal, so for example: .78 in pop-up = 78% of the population in this neighborhood are renters)
- Percent People of Color
- Percent of People 25 Years and Older With No Bachelor's Degree
- Percent of Children in Poverty
- Percent of People Making Less than 80% of Median Family Income
Based on these factors, each neighborhood is assigned a vulnerability score. Neighborhoods with vulnerability scores above .5 are considered vulnerable. The higher the vulnerability score, the more vulnerable residents are to displacement as a result of rising housing costs.
